Importing a Project from Git
The Import Project from Git Function
You import a project from the remote version control system with the Import Project from Git function. This function is available:
- in the Welcome screen, and
- in the Project Settings screen.
Importing a Project from Version Control - In the Welcome Screen
The Welcome screen appears:
- when nevisAdmin4 does not contain any projects yet, or
- when you do not have the permission to view any of the existing projects.
Importing a Project from Version Control - In the Project Settings Screen
The Import Project from Git function is also part of the Action menu in the sidebar of the [Project Settings] screen.
Note that the Project Settings screen is only available when projects already exist.
Importing a Project from Git
Instead of creating a new project you can use a project that is stored in a Git repository. In this case, import the relevant project from Git into the nevisAdmin4 web application. Therefore, the project must exist in the version control repository folder. If this is not the case, then:
- create a new project instead, or
- change the directory, branch or repository in the Import Project from Git dialog, such that they point to an existing project. The Import Project from Git dialog is described in the next section [The Import Project from Git Dialog].
The Import Project from Git Dialog
You specify the details for the import of the project from Git in the Import Project from Git dialog (see the next figure). This dialog appears after you selected the Import Project from Git function in the Welcome screen or from the Action menu in the Project Settings screen sidebar.
The following fields in the Import Project from Git dialog are of relevance when you import a project from version control:
- The Git repository field (no. 1 in the figure) Enter the Git URL of the project in this field. Click Scan to get immediate feedback on whether the repository exists. This field is mandatory.
- The Branch drop-down menu (no. 2) The Branch drop-down menu lists the available branches from the Git repository. By default, the master branch is selected. If this is not appropriate for your project, select the correct branch. This field is mandatory.
- The Directoryfield (no. 3) In this field, you specify the name of the directory in the repository where the project files are stored. This field is optional.
- The Project key field (no. 4) Define the key for the new project in this field. Note that the project key must be unique. This field is mandatory.
The project key always starts with the selected tenant. You can only import a project for the tenant that is selected in the Tenants drop-down.
For more information about tenants, see Tenants.
